St. George’s Day 2025 in Gravesham | Celebrate with the DDFK Oompah & Military Bands

Event Overview:

St. George’s Day holds a special place in England’s cultural heritage, commemorating the nation’s patron saint, St. George. Traditionally observed on April 23, this day has been celebrated for centuries, with its origins tracing back to the early 15th century when it became a national holiday in England. 

About St. George:

St. George is venerated as a martyr who, according to tradition, was a Roman soldier that protested against the persecution of Christians. He was beheaded on April 23, AD 303, a date now commemorated as St. George’s Day.  Over time, he became the patron saint of England, symbolizing bravery and chivalry.

Event Details:

• Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2025

• Time: Festivities commence at 10:00 AM

• Venue: Community Square, Gravesend Town Centre

Schedule of Activities:

• 10:00 AM – Parade Commencement: The day’s festivities kick off with a vibrant parade featuring local schools, community groups, and performers. Participants will showcase handmade arts and crafts, a result of workshops conducted by arts organizations in the lead-up to the event. The parade will start from St. George’s Church and proceed through the town center, embodying the spirit of unity and celebration.

• 11:30 AM – Flag-Raising Ceremony: Following the parade, a flag-raising ceremony will take place at Community Square. Attendees are invited to join in the communal singing of patriotic songs, fostering a sense of national pride and community togetherness.

• 12:00 PM – DDFK Oompah Band Performance: The DDFK Oompah Band will take the stage to deliver an energetic set of traditional and contemporary Military, Pop & Oompah music. Their lively performance is sure to get feet tapping and spirits soaring, bringing a festive atmosphere to the heart of Gravesham.

• 1:30 PM – DDFK Military Band Performance: The DDFK Military Band will follow with a stirring selection of military and ceremonial music. Their precision and grandeur will captivate the audience, honoring the rich heritage associated with St. George’s Day.

• 3:00 PM – Family-Friendly Activities: The afternoon will feature interactive workshops and activities suitable for all ages. From arts and crafts to face painting and storytelling sessions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

• 5:00 PM – Conclusion of Festivities: The day’s events will wrap up, leaving attendees with cherished memories of a community united in celebration.
